Music and Tea Afternoon

By 2.30 p.m the Hall was filled by about 40 people, who had arrived for an afternoon of entertainment by the Music Group.

Following the choir's introductory rendition of "Abba Father" we all enjoyed singing that rousing hymn "To Be The Glory" which seemed a totally appropriate start to the theme of the Easter Story.

Two short Bible readings reminded us that Jesus was sent by God's love and that he suffered for our sins.

We considered God's love and Christ's Crucifixion and Resurrection through a programme, which included a selection of songs by the Singing Group, two poems, one of which was both written and read by Jean Larner, and some beautifully sung solos, including one of my personal favourites "In the Garden, Gethsemene."

Everyone enjoyed sining that special Good Friday hymn "There is a Green Hill" and the penultimate item "Thine be the Glory."

The afternoon closed with the song "See What A Morning" and a prayer followed by a cup of tea and home made cakes.

This is the second time I have had the pleasure of attending the Singing Group's music and tea afternoon and along with everyone present I would like to say a big Thank You to the group for their hard work.

I would recommend future events to everyone.

Although we will have celebrated Easter by the time you read this, let us ponder on the words of one of the prayers

Lord draw us tot he Cross, which brings forgiveness

Lord draw us to the Cross which brings light

Lord draw us to the Cross which brings love

Lord draw us to the cross which brings life

Lord draw us to yourself and each other.
