2008 News

National Children's Homes

Having just opened the Boxes, I am happy to say that from just four boxes the total was a magnificent £53.05.  We now only have 3 boxes active, since Dot’s death last year, so if anyone thinks they could take one, would you please contact me.

I would also like to say a big THANK YOU for the Christmas envelopes, and an added THANK YOU to those who kindly Gift aided.

News From the Fund Raising Group:

What a wonderful atmosphere  -  at the Shoppers’ Coffee PLUS on 9th February.  People came from within the village, from Wymondham and Norwich to enjoy a cup of coffee and purchase from the stalls  -  and over £200 was raised for the church funds and the Vidiyal Trust.

The Lent Lunches continue each Saturday, with Homemade soup being served from 12 noon onwards.  A big THANK YOU to those who have made the soup, creating a lovely choice for people.  Thank you.

The Fashion Show has been rescheduled for Friday 11th April.  Full details will be available next month.  Please book the date.

Hope & Homes for Children  -  Plant Sale

Our mild winter is encouraging early signs of growth and soon, I am sure, we will be able to start sowing seeds, taking cuttings and thinning out.  Our annual plant sale, in aid of Hope and Homes for Children, will take place on our church forecourt on Saturday 17th May.

Please find some plants for us to sell for this good cause.  We always appreciate the help so many of you give.

Many thanks   -   Joan Green

 2007 News

A coffee morning at the home of Vera and Brian Forst raised £141.25 for Hope and Homes for Children. In spite of the strange and variable weather the garden looked delightful and there was brisk business at the bring and buy, cake stall and raffle. A plant sale outside the church in May raised £160 for the Hope and Homes for Children charity.

World Mission Boxes have raised £97.42 which has been sent to the Circuit World Mission Fund to be used to support mission overseas. World Mission Sunday this year will be on 14th October when the Rev Gordon Webster from Mundesley will be preaching at both the morning and the evening services.

Money raised this year for Mission in Britain through the collecting box scheme has totalled £44.06. Mission in Britain Sunday will be held on 28th October when the preacher at the morning service will be Martin Nisbett and the theme for the service will be Street Pastors.

The Christmas Post Box raised £38.40p and the Christmas Day collection £176.69 for the work of NCH.

The support of so many people last year enabled us to successfully fund raise again. The two events in aid of Cromwell House, our Methodist Home for the Aged, raised £430.20. The plant sale, coffee morning, sale of covered shoe boxes and the Wymondham Christmas event raised a grand total of £499.35 for Hope and Homes for Children. My thanks to all who supported these events in any way and a special thanks to my faithful group of helpers, without whom none of these events could take place.

After meeting up with the co-founders of Hope and Homes for Children, Colonel Mark Cook and his wife Caroline, just before Christmas, plans are going ahead for me to travel with them to Romania in the Spring. It will be interesting and rewarding to see the results of the wonderful work going on there to help so many orphaned children whose futures must be improved now that Romania has joined the EU.

Again - many thanks, We hope to have our annual plant sale in May!

2006 Fund-raisers

Cantabile Youth Choir

WOW was the only word that seemed appropriate to describe the visit of the hugely talented youth choir Cantabile who visited us from their home in Nuneaton in April, 2006.

The choir, whose members are aged from seven to 23, provided an evening of hugely varied items ranging from show tunes to Christian hymns with splashes of classical and contemporary thrown in for good measure.

An almost full church gave a rousing round of applause to every item provided by some of the best young voices in the country as they provided over two hours of top class entertainment.

Their material ranged from Mozart, Vaughan-Williams and Elgar to Richard Rodgers, Mary Donnelly, Lionel Bart and even John Denver.

The choir were led by their musical director Christine Sumner. Christine teaches at the Christine Sumner Academy of Music where all the members of Cantabile study. They were accompanied by Allan Procter who is Musical Director of the Nuneaton Amateur Operatic Society and conductor of the Bedworth Choral Society.

The evening was completed by organ solos from Norwich School pupil William Warns who showcased works by Bach, Elert and Mendelssohn.

Proceeds from the evening will go to church and choir funds and world vision.

Cantabile Youth Choir have their own web site which can be accessed by clicking here. Christine Sumner also has a web site which can be accessed by clicking here.
