June 2008 During
last week 3 different groups met to look at the progress we are making
as a Church. On Monday
evening the Church Life committee met and discussed the different events
in the life of the Church. We
are reminded at times like these of the vast array of different
activities reaching large numbers of different people.
Perhaps we catch a bit of a glimpse of the real work that we do
as a Church. Two particular
topics were the work of Operation New Look, which we are holding a
Vision day for this coming Saturday.
This can be an exciting and challenging year for us as a Church
and may well equip us to face the next 25 years.
In much the same way there was a discussion about the use of the
premises and notice boards in particular since the Playgroup has
re-located from our premises. Whilst
this is disappointing, because we have enjoyed the links we have had for
some considerable time, it also gives us an opportunity to re-focus. On
Wednesday evening we had a meeting of the workers with children and
young people and from a quite depressing starting point, where people
felt disillusioned and frustrated with the current state of work, we
moved on to a point of reviewing all the work we do and came up with two
new initiatives to progress the work we do with teenagers and with our
younger children. These
initiatives are very much in their early stages at the moment and we
need the agreement of the Church Council before we can progress any
further, but the meeting ended on quite a positive note! Friday
evening was the turn of the Property Committee and whilst some would see
business issues like this as being far less exciting than some of the
other things we get involved in, we must remember that we can only do
some of the mission work if our building is maintained in good order.
One of our main concerns at the moment is that young people have
broken down the fence at the back of the Church and are using the
Car-Park as a shortcut between Cromwell Close and Tesco’s.
This doesn’t particularly cause us a problem, but some of the
young lads are quite abusive and we have started to experience
vandalism. Apart from this,
we need to be cautious where rights of way are involved, so we feel it
best to replace the existing fence with something more robust.
Hopefully this work will be completed during June. A
final apology for the Bulletin being late over the last couple of weeks.
I have been having problems with my computer, which are now
hopefully resolved. Things
have been made worse by me spilling a mug of tea over my keyboard,
resulting in sticking keys (not to be recommended!!) and everything
taking twice as long to do. Hopefully
we should be back to normal next week. | ||
