Something
Different - The church will be
trying something different for its worship on 12th July with both the
morning and evening services being led by Mrs Sheila Drew. The 6.30
p.m service will discuss the 10.30 a.m service. The idea is to gather
thoughts and comments about the morning event. There will also be one
or two hymns and prayers.
Job
Search - The church is looking
to fill a number of volunteer posts. A JMA secreatry is required to
raise money via collecting boxes and to become involved with various
youth groups including helping to organise activities. Also needed is
a Mission in Britain Secretary, musicians to play for evening services
and other occasions and a notice sheet secretary.
Bouncing
Ideas - A series of meetings
to bounce ideas around and give anybody interested in the church a
chance to air their views on a variety of topics are being held at
the Manse. Subjects to be covered are: Tuesday 14th July Raising
Funds; Thursday 23rd July Working with children and young people;
Wednesday 29th July Growing in faith; Monday 3rd August Sharing our
faith with others; Tuesday 11th August How to work - Committees etc;
Thursday 20th August Open forum on any subject.
From
Zimbabwe - Mandy Spalding will be
visiting Hethersett on Saturday 5th September to talk about her work
at the Rusike Children's Home in Zimbabwe where she helped to care
for 120 children. Further details on this event will follow.
For
the Children - A plant sale
outside the church in May raised over £293 for the Hope and Homes
for Children charity. Local
co-ordinator for the charity, which supports and helps orphans,
abandoned and vulnerable children in Central and Eastern Europe and
Africa, Joan Green said she was “overwhelmed” by the result. “We
were overwhelmed by the wonderful and generous response to the
annual sale. Gifts or plants, purchases and donations raised an
amazing £293.85. Sums of money like this makes a tremendous
difference to the lives of so many children living in orphanages and
living in poverty in countries helped by Hope and Homes for
Children. It is gratifying to know that, with us, so many people
show interested concern in such a meaningful way,” Joan said.
The next fundraiser for the charity will be the annual coffee
morning at 26 Mill Road on Wednesday, 22nd July from 10 a.m until
noon.

Familiar
Faces - A number of familiar faces from the
past have been returning to Hethersett Methodist Church to
help celebrate the 25th anniversary of Operation
New Look which transformed the old chapel into a bright and
modern church. To mark the silver jubilee of the
landmark in the church’s history a number of former
ministers have returned to the village to lead Sunday
morning worship. The visits began with the return of the
Rev Brian Dann, who was minister at the time of the
re-building programme. He was followed by Lynne Cole, widow
of former minister the Rev Gerald Cole. The latest visit was
from the Rev David Hart, who is now a minister on the island
of Guernsey.Next in line will be the Rev William
Booker who is due to lead the morning worship on June 28th.

Nora
Remembered - Keith Hobday
contacted this site to remember Nora Pearson who, for many years, was
a key member of the church. Nora was a well known village
conservationist, teacher, artist and musician. Read what Keith had to
say about her in our Reminiscences section by clicking

Time
for Sanctuary - Our Prayer,
Praise and Healing ‘Service’ on March 25th went well,
and we have decided to continue with this on the 4th
Wednesday of each month (except December).
But in future it will be called ‘A
PLACE OF SANCTUARY’. We
will begin each time with refreshments, and there will be music, a
few songs and readings, and of course prayer. Everyone
is welcome to this ‘informal’ time of fellowship.
There are so many things to bring before God in prayer, for
our Church, our community, our families and friends and for the
troubles in the world. And
it is an opportunity to just draw closer to God, or receive healing
prayer.
Coffee Stop Request - The Monday Morning Coffee Stop, which runs between 10 and
11.30am during term time, has for a number of years run on the
goodwill of a team of volunteers who cheerfully make drinks, chat to
those who come and then do the washing up. However, we have once again
come to the point where we really need a few more volunteers. Please would you consider
helping? If you would like to find out more then why not pop down on
a Monday where you will be able to see first hand the benefit of
this community outreach and chat to those who already know the ropes
or, alternatively, contact Liz Thetford on 01603 811413.

Do you have a special memory of
the church or its people? We are looking to collect reminiscences of
the past to feature in a special area of the site. We are
particularly looking for old photographs of anything to do with the
church so that we can make the past come alive. Over the next few
months we would like to build up an historic archive of the church.
You can let us have your memories by jotting them down and giving
them to either Derek Grimshaw or Peter Steward. They can also be
e-mailed by clicking
here. To read more about the history of the church click
